Donald Kinner, MA, LMFT, LPC
Hello there! I am Donald Kinner, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I earned my graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School and have practiced professionally since 1985. As a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, I regularly pursue continuing education through AACC and other professional organizations.
Reaching out for counseling can feel like a significant step, and you do not have to take it alone. I help individuals, couples, and families heal emotional wounds, restore and strengthen relationships, and grow in intimacy with God through counseling that combines professional expertise with biblical principles.
Counseling is a collaborative process. From the first session, we will identify your goals, explore the issues shaping your struggles, and create a practical plan that respects your unique journey. This personalized approach integrates professional therapeutic techniques with a biblical perspective to help you pursue greater peace, direction, meaning, and purpose.
In individual counseling, I often work with those who outwardly appear fine or successful, but inwardly struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, shame, or past trauma. In marriage counseling, we will work to improve communication, learn tools and skills to resolve conflict, rebuild trust, and deepen intimacy. In family counseling, we will navigate complex family dynamics with grace, fostering healthy and harmonious relationships.
In addition to what is addressed in traditional one-hour sessions, I also specialize in two-day, one-day, and half-day intensives designed to move through your healing process more quickly. In these focused therapy sessions, we also address past and present hurts, wounds, or traumas through listening prayer, inviting the Lord to bring healing and deepen your intimacy with Jesus.
