Sharon Smith

Counselor Intern

Sharon L. Smith is a Christ-centered counseling intern who offers deep compassion, spiritual wisdom, and trauma-informed insights in her work with individuals, couples, and families. She is currently earning her master's in clinical psychology with a focus on Marriage, Family, and Couples Therapy at Regent University, where she combines evidence-based trauma care with a faith-based perspective.

Her clinical experience includes serving as a student counselor at Catholic Charities of Southeastern Virginia and currently as an intern at the Marriage Center in Virginia Beach. In both roles, Sharon provides thoughtful, culturally sensitive therapeutic support to survivors and families navigating complex emotional and relational challenges.

Grounded in a strong theoretical framework, Sharon utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns; Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to build secure emotional connections in couples and families; and the Gottman Method to improve relationship dynamics through practical, research-supported strategies. Her approach shows a commitment to holistic healing - respecting both psychological science and spiritual values.

Sharon holds a B.S. in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude, and is a proud graduate of Norfolk State University, where she earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Psychology in 2023.
